Remember: The kitchen is closely linked to your health!

1. PE Plastic Wrap
While PE (polyethylene) food wrap is generally safe for food contact, it should not be used with fatty foods for long periods. Otherwise, microplastics may leach into the food.
It’s also important to note that PE wrap can only withstand temperatures up to 120°C (248°F).
If you use it to cover food and then microwave or steam it, the high heat (often above 120°C) can cause the wrap to melt, contaminating the food.
Tip: Always check the temperature resistance on the packaging. Overheating can lead to microplastic contamination, posing serious health risks.

2. Low-Quality Silicone Spatulas
Some silicone spatulas on the market are not made of food-grade silicone but instead nylon-based with only a small amount of silicone added.
These poor-quality spatulas melt, deform, or crack after repeated use, especially under high heat.
Nylon can degrade into toxic substances at high temperatures, contaminating your food and endangering your health.

3. Teflon-Coated Nonstick Pans
Many nonstick pans are coated with Teflon, which poses serious safety concerns. Over time, the coating can flake off, exposing the Teflon beneath and contaminating your food.
High temperatures can also break down Teflon into toxic compounds.
Advice: Avoid Teflon-coated pans altogether. If the coating is damaged, replace the pan immediately.

4. Metal Chopsticks (Alloy Chopsticks)
Some people switch to alloy chopsticks, believing they are cleaner and longer-lasting than wooden ones. However, these chopsticks are often made of fiberglass and polymers.
If broken, the fiberglass fibers may be exposed and can injure your hand—or worse, if ingested, they pose a serious internal risk.
Low-quality alloy chopsticks may even melt at high temperatures.
Suggestion: Use wooden chopsticks and replace them every 3 to 6 months to avoid mold or wear issues.

5. Glazed Ceramic Bowls and Plates
Many ceramic dishes in the market are not safe for direct food contact. Some are meant for decorative purposes only and contain glazes that may leach harmful substances into food, especially acidic or hot foods.
Tip: Always choose food-safe ceramic items that are clearly marked as safe for food use.
